KAYA Bar and Grill: A great find in Jaco

I hadn’t been to Jaco in a while, so big surprises came around last weekend.
The ocean was nicer than I remembered, specially on the northern part of Jaco.  Also two new restaurants pleased me and my family for lunch and dinner.

Saturday night we were in Kaya, a charming little restaurant on a side street, with Andrea open grill and a  menu with a variety of dishes to please a large table of 8.
Laura and Bruno, the owners, have been in Jaco for over 15 years, they decided to join forces , ideas and dishes in their new restaurant.

I started with a refreshing pineapple ginger mojito, the cool off the humidity of the night; followed by a few appetisers to share: fresh tuna carpaccio, a seafood salad beautifully presented and really tasteful, and fried calamaris with a chipotle sauce. All really good.
Then luckily everyone ordered different dishes as main entres so I can comment on most of them. Mahi mahi in lemon sauce, nice and light. The grilled whole snapper was easily sharable, it came with a nice sad on the side. The Robalo in papillon, probably my favourite, came with a light tomato sauce and white rice, it was moist and flavourful. My nephew had a shrimp skewer (about 8 jumbo shrimp)  with a lemon butter sauce on the side. They offered a variety of red meats and burgers, although I didn’t try them, my friends were very happy with their selection.
Service was attentive. Laura was taking care of the restaurant making sure things were running smoothly, while Bruno was in the kitchen, a successful combination! Prices are very reasonable, portions are very decent.
We were too full for dessert, so sorry I won’t have my reviews on them this time, but I’ll be back soon and will save some room for them!

If you are in Jaco, don’t miss Kaya, a really nice restaurant!
