Hacienda Alta Gracia

Hacienda Alta Gracia: A very distinct hotel in the southern town of San Isidro del General. A four-hour drive or a short flight from San José will take to you to this amazing place.

We arrived for lunchtime…. Not knowing what to expect we were delighted with a nice meal facing the Valle del General in the hotel pool terrace.

Right after lunch we headed to one of the 30 casitas and were very impressed with what we saw. From the outside you’ll see a very simple design, inside is all about magnificent luxurious comfort. Nothing seemed to escape the attention of its designer, a fireplace, a wet bar, a beautiful sitting area, great mattresses and bedding. The bathroom, one of my favourites areas in a room could be my retreat for a weak! With amazing views of the property, large windows, separate bath and shower… all just perfect.

A coffee and a book kept me happy all afternoon while my husband enjoyed his usual long nap!

Dinner was nice at their main dinning room, an elegant room with  great view of the valley. Since we had a late lunch, dinner was rather light: A fish and a delicious Vietnamese soup were perfectly cooked by the chef in their modern open kitchen.

Second Day:

After a great night sleep under luxury linens we woke up to inhale pure air from Valle del General and get ready fro breakfast. Our breakfast was included and delicious. The entire baked basket is freshly baked in house; all breads and muffins fluffy and warm. The fruit and coffee are as good as it gets in Costa Rica.

A peaceful breakfast prepared us to explore what Alta Gracia has to offer. We started with a short walk to the river where we spent about an hour letting the sun pamper our skin while the fresh clear water of the river massaged our backs. I love the experience of having a river just for me…. The sound of the birds, the water running freely, the sun… such an incomparable and detoxifying feeling!

A separate building,  where you’ll find a game room, two conference rooms, a cava and a beautiful terrace is great for a business event or parties. Weddings are also celebrated in Alta Gracia.

Hacienda Alta Gracia is a special place. We very much enjoyed our stay here, where you simply absorb the quietness of nature interrupted only by birds singing or a nice heavy rain in the afternoon, a good cup of costarrican coffee and a book. Those simple things that are hard to appreciate on our daily routines. Start the New Year planning a getaway you won’t regret.
